PLAR Simplified Definition
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) have various meanings according to the different organizations or associations that use it. One of the most frequently used definitions is, 'What I value, what I know, and what I can do.' The Gateways Project has designed a definition of PLAR that addresses the scope of activities that may be relevant as well as the diversity of sources that may produce demonstrations of learning.
Adults learn from a variety of experiences and sources outside the classroom.
