It is a pleasure to welcome you to this online, virtual conference on Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). The conference is hosted by the Pan-Canadian Gateways Project at Athabasca University, which receives generous funding by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. Spanning the learning recognition gap has become a vital priority for all of us. In December 15, 2003 we began a 3-year research project on PLAR. The goals and objectives of the Pan-Canadian Gateways Project are as follows: |
Topics of Interest |
- To demonstrate That PLAR is an integral part of post-secondary credential completion and outcome-based employment eligibility in the Human Services sector.
- To develop PLAR tools at an entry, diploma, advanced and degree completion level. Complete the process with a minimum of 100 practitioners.
- To communicate the activities and results of the project to a range of employers, professional associations, colleges and universities to broaden the use, acceptance and recognition of these awards.
- To track and measure participants' success in achieving their educational and employment goals to evaluate the success of the project.
Athabasca University, Canada's Open University, is pleased to host this forum. Topics of discussion at this conference include: (1) Innovations in PLAR, (2) Assessment Portfolios, (3) Barriers to PLAR, and (4) Success Stories. I would encourage you to take every opportunity to share your experiences and engage in dialogue with colleagues.
Thank you for participating in this virtual conference.
